NCSAA Great Lakes Classic

September 11-12, 2015

SOCCER TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Location:

All soccer games will be played at Geneva College and Green Valley Park.  Directions are available HERE.

What You Need to Provide:

  • Medical Waiver Forms – The parent / guardian of each player MUST complete an online Athlete Waiver Form.  No player will be permitted to participate in any NCSAA tournament if NCSAA does not have a completed, current, and valid form on file for that player.  Please make your players and their parents aware of this requirement now, so that they can begin going online and submitting their forms.  All forms must be submitted by 11:30 PM on Sunday, September 6.  You can access the Athlete Waiver Form by clicking HERE.
  • Soccer Balls – You’ll need to bring your own balls for warm-up, and we'll plan on using the participating teams' best available balls for game play.
  • Water – You’ll be responsible for bringing your own filled water bottles / jugs to the fields where you’ll play.
  • Medical Kits – We hope to have an athletic trainer on site, but you will be responsible for bringing your own medical supplies.  If you need to be taped up before a game, please be sure to have your own supplies for this.
  • Ballboy - Please have a player (or someone else) available to help keep the ball in play along one sideline during your games, if possible.  Thanks for your help!

Registration / When You Arrive:

On-site tournament registration will take place at the soccer fields, before your first game.  Please arrive an hour before your first scheduled game time, in order to allow time for on-site registration.  At this time you will receive your coaches' packets (very important!) and final schedules (reflecting any recent changes), verify that all of your athletes are eligible to participate, and be provided with important tournament information.

Schedule:

The tournament schedule will be posted on Tuesday, September 1.  CLICK HERE to access the tournament schedule.  Game results will be posted online throughout the tournament, so that your athletes' families and other fans can follow the results of the tournament via this online link.

Please contact us now if you have any questions about the schedule.

Game Start Times:

The times listed on the tournament schedule are the start times for the games.  In order to keep the tournament on schedule, we must begin each game on time.  If your team is late for your scheduled game, you may be required to forfeit the game.  Please allow plenty of time to arrive on time for each of your games.

We have tried to schedule enough time to allow teams to get onto the field for at least a short warm up before their games.  (Due to the tight field schedule we must keep, we are starting games every hour and 45 minutes...so it is a good idea to begin getting loose and stretching before the previous game ends, and then you'll hopefully have about 15 minutes of pregame time for field warm-up drills, warming up your keepers in goal, etc.)  In the event that the field time before your game is cut short (by an overtime period in the previous game or some other reason), or if you have a more extensive team warm-up program, please begin your team’s warm-up and stretching routine elsewhere...and be ready to go at the start of your game time.

Home/Away Uniforms:

The first team listed (on the schedule) will be considered the home team in each game.  The home team should wear white/light jerseys.

The second team listed (on the schedule) will be considered the away team in each game.  The away team should wear dark jerseys.

If you have any potential problem regarding your team’s jerseys (only have one color jersey, etc), please contact us in advance of your arrival at the tournament.

Please bring both your home and away uniforms to each game, in case any problems arise.  Thank you!

Game Play Specifics:

Girls and boys in grades 7-12 are eligible to participate.

Girls may compete with your boys' varsity team only if your school does not have a girls' varsity team in attendance at the tournament.  If you need to request a necessary exception to this rule, please contact NCSAA to discuss.

The boys' soccer tournament format is two divisions of four teams each, which will be decided by an Opening Round Game on Friday.  Friday game results will seed the teams into Saturday's divisional games.  Each team will play one game on Friday, and then two games on Saturday.

The girls' soccer tournament format is one division of four teams.  Friday's game results will decide the matchups for Saturday's semifinal games.

Each game will be composed of two 40-minute halves.  There will be no ties.  If necessary, one 10-minute golden-goal overtime period will be played.  If a tie persists at the end of that overtime period, the game will be decided by a shootout.  Each game’s halftime will be 10 minutes long.

Game play and other matters will generally follow NFHS rules.  If you have any questions regarding game play or any other matters concerning this tournament, please contact NCSAA in advance of your arrival at the tournament, and/or discuss those matters with the tournament officials before you play.  Thanks so much!

Closing Ceremony and Awards:

A closing ceremony will follow the conclusion of each championship game.  Please plan to stay for your division's closing ceremony, if possible.

The first-place and second-place teams will receive NCSAA championship and runner-up banners.

All teams will be recognized during the closing ceremony, which will also include a special time of recognition and prayer for the coaches of all teams.

(Because the championship and third-place games will happen at separate field locations this year, we will have a time of prayer with the teams at each field, upon the completion of their final game.)

NCSAA Coaches’ Award:

The NCSAA Coaches' Award will be presented to players throughout the tournament.  These awards will be given by the coaches of the participating teams, as a way to recognize and encourage athletes who demonstrate noteworthy effort, leadership, encouragement, integrity, humility, courage, grace, and other qualities of Biblical discipline in their play.  This program allows us to encourage coaches to be intentional in “building into the lives” of the players who are competing in the event.

Admission:

There is no admission fee at this tournament.  We welcome your fans to attend and support the teams!

Team Devotions:

At on-site registration you will receive a special devotional booklet for each of your players, which you can use for joint team devotional times throughout the event.  We encourage you to use these materials to challenge your athletes to spend time each day in God’s Word, as well as to set aside some time to talk and pray together (as a team).

Tournament T-Shirts:

Official 2015 NCSAA Great Lakes Classic T-shirts will be available for purchase at the tournament (for $15 each).  A very limited number of T-shirts will be available for purchase at the tournament, so if you intend to purchase T-shirts, please get them early in the weekend!

Facility Host:

Geneva College and Green Valley Park have graciously agreed to host this NCSAA tournament.  Please encourage your team to be mindful of this generosity in the way that you treat their facilities; we want to be excellent stewards of the fields and gymnasium, in order to reflect Christ in how we care for what is entrusted to us...and so that we can be welcomed back to these facilities in future years.  Thank you!

Lodging and Meals:

All teams previously received information regarding options and pricing for lodging for this tournament.  If you have not yet made arrangements for lodging (and need assistance doing so), or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact NCSAA right away at 724-846-2764.

We also plan to have a Meals Booklet available for your team, upon your arrival at the tournament.  This will include suggestions for restaurants in the local area, as well as discounts at restaurants that have made those available for tournament teams.  We hope this will help to provide you with some options to find affordable meal options in the area.

Tournament Sponsors:

Special thanks to our tournament sponsors – Portage Learning, Barclay College, and Davis College.
